 Recipe of Beef Nihari

Beef Nihari is a traditional Pakistani and North Indian dish that is slow-cooked with beef shank, spices, and herbs to create a rich, aromatic stew.

Here is a simple recipe to make beef nihari:

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs beef shank
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoons wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons nihari masala powder
  • 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 8 cups water
  • Fresh ginger slices, chopped cilantro leaves, and green chilies for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add chopped onions and fry until they turn golden brown.

  2. Add beef shank to the pot and fry until lightly browned on all sides.

  3. Add ginger garlic paste, wheat flour, nihari masala powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and fry for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Add 8 cups of water to the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the gravy is thick and aromatic.

  5. Once the beef is tender, remove from the pot and shred it with a fork.

  6. Serve the beef nihari hot, garnished with fresh ginger slices, chopped cilantro leaves, and green chilies.

  7. Nihari is typically served with hot naan bread, but can also be served with steamed rice or other breads.

Enjoy your delicious beef nihari!
