Recipe of Chicken Biryani 

 

Chicken Biryani is a popular South Asian rice dish that is flavorful and aromatic. Here is a simple recipe to make chicken biryani:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 lb bone-in chicken pieces
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4-5 green cardamom pods
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Rinse rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak rice in cold water for 30 minutes.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, add chicken pieces, yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, and salt. Mix well and marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.

  3. Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and fry until they turn golden brown.

  4. Add chopped tomatoes and fry until the tomatoes turn soft.

  5. Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until chicken is lightly browned.

  6. Add all the spices (bay leaves, green cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt). Mix well.

  7. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Mix well and add enough water to cover the rice. Bring to a boil.

  8. Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is fully cooked.

  9. Let the biryani rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves.

  10. Serve hot with raita or salad.
